Kyrgyz authorities detain man accused of transferring fighters to Syria

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (GKNB), in co-operation with foreign partners, arrested a 23-year-old Kyrgyz man accused of belonging to an international terrorist organisation, 24.kg reported Thursday (September 27) citing the GKNB press office.

The suspect had been a member of the unnamed organisation for five years and received training in Syria, where he participated in combat.

Under the orders of the group's leaders, the suspect "was engaged in [the] illegal transfer of recruits to Syria," according to the committee.

"In total, more than 100 people from [Commonwealth of Independent States] countries were sent to the [war] zone with the direct involvement of the detainee," it said.
