Kyrgyz foreign minister notes progress on regional border issues

BISHKEK -- Co-operation between Central Asian states on border delineation is growing, said Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldayev, 24.kg reported.

Abdyldayev made his remarks Thursday (October 4) at the 17th Autumn Meeting of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly. The event is taking place in Bishkek October 3-6.

"Kyrgyzstan attaches significance to co-operation with all countries of the region," he said. "Landlocked countries need to strengthen integration. Development of regional infrastructure in this area of ​​co-operation is gaining positive momentum."

The Kyrgyz government argues that legal registration of state borders "should become a reliable foundation", Abdyldayev said, pointing out a recent "breakthrough in this regard with Uzbekistan".
