TASHKENT -- The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing loans to develop access to drinking water in Uzbekistan and increase the energy efficiency of the nation's industrial sector, according an EIB statement on October 15.
The bank will provide a €100 million (946 billion UZS) loan to finance water and wastewater projects to reduce Uzbekistan's water resource dependency on its neighbours, who provide 80% of the nation's water.
Another €100 million loan will help the Uzbek government realise its plans to reduce the country's energy intensity level by at least 50% by 2030 through energy-efficiency investments of small- and medium-sized enterprises and private sector entities.
The EIB is developing both projects in co-operation with the World Bank, said the statement.
