ASTANA -- Construction of a new 100MW wind power plant in Kostomar village of Akmola Province is under way, Kazinform reported Tuesday (October 23), citing the press office for the province's Domestic Policy Department.

The "green village", situated 40km from Astana, is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 230,000 tonnes per year.

The plant will cost more than 46 billion KZT ($130 million), according to the department.

The wind farm, which is adapted to local climatic conditions, is expected to help develop the local economy. About 300 workers are already helping build the plant.
