BISHKEK -- President Sooronbay Jeenbekov urged international donors Thursday (November 1) to help implement Kyrgyzstan's National Development Strategy, 24.kg reported.
"We need partner support," said Jeenbekov at a meeting in Bishkek attended by diplomats and representatives of more than 50 international organisations.
Kyrgyzstan has received $10 billion (697.1 billion KGS) in aid from donor organisations and launched 401 projects with their assistance since the nation attained independence in 1991, according to Jeenbekov.
He urged the Council on Co-operation with Donors to intensify its work and called for the creation of a separate agency to co-ordinate donor assistance.
Jeenbekov announced plans for a donor conference next spring.
For their part, international donors highlighted the need for intensified anti-corruption efforts.
"It is known that corruption hinders the development of the economy," Charlotte Adriaen, head of the Co-operation Section of the European Union Delegation to Kyrgyzstan, said at the meeting.
"According to recent studies, there is some progress in the fight against corruption, but there are still some difficulties," she said. "It would be good to work on strengthening the rule of law."
