OSH, Kyrgyzstan -- Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Donald Lu inaugurated a new milk processing facility in Osh city Friday (November 2), the US embassy in Kyrgyzstan said in a statement.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Alaiku Organics invested more than $740,000 (51 million KGS) to establish the modern facility.

The new plant will become the largest active dairy processing factory in southern Kyrgyzstan, producing kefir, curd, sour cream, cheese, butter and other dairy products in compliance with international food safety standards, according to the embassy.

The plant will increase the incomes of 1,500 local farmers, who are needed to supply the new facility with up to five tonnes of milk per day.

"Alaiku Organics will also support the farmers by providing technical advice and high-quality feed to increase milk production during the winter months," said the embassy.
