DUSHANBE -- Leading members of the parliaments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan met in Dushanbe Tuesday (November 20) to discuss inter-parliamentary co-operation between the two countries, Asia-Plus reported.
Uzbek parliamentary speaker Nuriddinjon Ismailov and other lawmakers arrived in the Tajik capital Monday (November 19) for a two-day official visit, the first ever by an Uzbek parliamentary delegation to Tajikistan.
Ismailov and his Tajik counterpart, Shukurjon Zukhurov, expressed hopes that closer relations between lawmakers would help to strengthen economic, humanitarian and cultural co-operation between the two countries, according to Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for Tajikistan's parliament.
Last year, Dushanbe and Tashkent signed more than 180 agreements and contracts worth $730 million, noted Zukhurov.
The Uzbek delegation was also scheduled to meet with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and visit the Nurek hydro-electric power plant, the TALCO Cable plant, the Tajik National Library and the Kokhi Navrouz State Complex in Dushanbe.
