BISHKEK -- The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science are set to present Tuesday (November 20) in Bishkek the results of a reading assessment of Kyrgyz pupils, the US embassy in Bishkek said in a statement.
More than 5,000 pupils in 289 Kyrgyz and Russian language schools across Kyrgyzstan took part in the Early Grade Reading Assessment, which is part of USAID's "Time to Read" programme.
The assessment seeks to measure schoolchild performance in literacy. The results will help researchers outline "how key factors influence student reading performance, such as the language spoken at home, socioeconomic status and reading habits", said the statement.
