BISHKEK -- A former Kyrgyz deputy prime minister is in jail over charges of corruption, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported Monday (December 10), quoting a statement by the State Committee for National Security (GKNB).

Authorities arrested Duishenbek Zilaliyev over the weekend in connection with accusations of "illegal enrichment", said the GKNB, adding that he was unable to explain his possession of almost $900,000 (62.9 million KGS) of undeclared cash and property.

Zilaliyev was deputy prime minister for part of 2017.

His arrest comes after Azerbaijani authorities detained a former chief of Kyrgyzstan's Customs Service, Adamkul Junusov, on corruption charges in Baku on December 5 at the request of Bishkek.
