BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Syria's Kurds Wednesday (January 9) said they had captured eight alleged foreign jihadists, including four Central Asians, in fighting against the "Islamic State" (IS).

The eight, detained on Sunday and Monday (January 6 and 7), include two suspects from Uzbekistan, one from Tajikistan and one from Kazakhstan.

The others come from Germany, Russia and the United States.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) has spearheaded the battle against IS in eastern Syria.

It is the largest component in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who are backed by the US-led coalition against IS.
