ALMATY -- The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) taught 16 Kazakh government officials how to fight human trafficking, the OSCE said in a statement Friday (March 1).

The training session took place in Almaty Thursday (February 28) and Friday. Sixteen officials from 14 Kazakh provincial governments received training, as well as an unspecified number of personnel from law enforcement agencies and NGOs.

The US Embassy in Astana, Kazakh Interior Ministry (MVD) and OSCE jointly organised the workshop.

The seminar focused on themes like the provincial governments' role in fighting trafficking, co-operation between government agencies and international NGOs, and exchange of information.

In 2018, Kazakh police recorded 14 cases of adult trafficking and 5 cases of child trafficking, said Sagat Madiyev, deputy chief of the MVD Criminal Police Department, according to the statement.
