DUSHANBE -- The European Union (EU) is poised to allow duty-free export of Tajik goods to Europe in exchange for a Tajik commitment to protect human rights, workers' rights, the environment and good governance, Asia-Plus reported Friday (March 1), quoting the press office of the Tajik State Committee on Investment and State Property Management.

Tajik and EU officials recently discussed the possible accession of Tajikistan to the EU's Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+).

If the EU grants Tajikistan GSP+ status, the country would be able to export more than 6,400 types of merchandise to the EU duty free.

Tajik trade with Europe has room to grow. In 2018, Tajikistan's trade with Europe totalled about $320 million (3.1 billion TJS), almost a third less than in 2017.
