BISHKEK -- Twenty-seven Kyrgyz border guards and border service instructors learned how to identify foreign terrorist militants trying to enter Kyrgyzstan, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said in a statement Thursday (April 4).

The course took place in Bishkek Tuesday (April 2) through Thursday.

It was the 10th deployment of the OSCE Mobile Training Team. The OSCE and the Kyrgyz State Border Service co-operated in conducting the course.

Participants studied international, regional and national legal frameworks, use of Interpol databases, Advance Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record Systems, and travel document security. They learned about "risk analysis and management practices" in identifying possible foreign terrorist militants at the border while not violating human rights.

Participants studied the background and trends of the phenomenon of foreign terrorist militants, as well as how to detect forged documents, imposters and the behavioural clues that betray foreign terrorist militants.

The trainers included border officers from Georgia, Romania and Ukraine and international specialists from Interpol and the OSCE.

The OSCE Mobile Training Team was formed in 2016.
