Kazakh, Uzbek security officials hold consultations in Tashkent

NUR-SULTAN -- Kazakh and Uzbek officials met in Tashkent to discuss security, Kazinform reported Friday (April 5), citing the Kazakh presidential palace.

The Kazakh delegation, headed by Kazakh Security Council Secretary Kalmukhanbet Kassymov, conferred with Uzbek Security Council Secretary Viktor Makhmudov.

The two sides discussed security issues concerning the two countries and exchanged best practices for preventing extremism.

The officials also covered measures to ensure stability and mutual trust in Central Asia as well as regional security and sustainable development in the context of Afghanistan.

The two sides agreed to strengthen co-operation between their border forces and customs agencies to counter smuggling and customs violations. They also agreed to modernise checkpoints along their shared border.
