NUR-SULTAN -- Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Miroslav Lajčák held talks with Kazakh officials in Nur-Sultan Monday (April 8), Kazinform reported.

Lajčák, who is also the foreign minister of Slovakia, and Kazakh Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov discussed the OSCE's agenda, the potential for co-operation between the OSCE and Kazakhstan, plans for future interaction and security in the Eurasian space.

"We have discussed the importance of the equal deployment of OSCE structures [bodies] across the entire area of responsibility," said Atamkulov after the meeting. "We have also touched upon the transition to a new format for field missions, which will help enhance the organisation's activity."

The two sides also discussed the upcoming 2020 international conference meant to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act and the establishment of co-operation among the OSCE, Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia and Association of Southeast Asian Nations secretariats.

The goals of the OSCE are to prevent conflict, ensure security and maintain effective multilateral co-operation, said Lajčák during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev earlier on Monday. He emphasised the role of Kazakhstan in dealing with international crises.
