Kyrgyzstan sends ambassador to Kabul

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan once again has an ambassador in Kabul, 24.kg reported Thursday (April 18).

Miroslav Niyazov will head the embassy in Afghanistan, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov told journalists. The mission had been closed for some time.

The announcement coincided with the first official visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani to Kyrgyzstan Thursday.

Rabbani conferred with Kyrgyz government officials. Afterward, Afghan and Kyrgyz officials signed an agreement to establish an inter-governmental commission to implement and promote joint economic ventures and the export of electricity from Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan.

The two sides also reviewed the potential construction of a railway from China through Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Rabbani thanked Kyrgyzstan for being a partner on regional security.
