Kazakh parliament ratifies Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

NUR-SULTAN -- The lower house of the Kazakh parliament has ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, AKIpress reported Wednesday (May 15).

The treaty is a "a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination", the United Nations (UN) said on its website.

The bill requires approval by both the Kazakh senate and president before it becomes binding for Kazakhstan.

The UN passed the treaty in July 2017.
