Rahmon opens Tajik military school

DUSHANBE -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his son Tuesday (May 28) participated in the opening of a new military secondary school in Dushanbe, Rahmon's press office said in a statement.

The "Military Gymnasium Named for the Descendants of Cyrus the Great" includes three two-storey buildings and can accommodate up to 100 pupils. The school belongs to the country's Border Troops.

Orphans are expected to comprise the majority of pupils.

The school's two-year curriculum, besides basic subjects, will include courses in English, Chinese, Turkish and Russian. Graduates will be able to attend military academies in Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and other countries, according to the press release.

The school opening was part of events marking May 28, which is Border Guard Day in Tajikistan.
