Taliban kidnap 17 more passengers in Sar-i-Pul, kill 2 in Kunduz

SAR-I-PUL, Afghanistan -- Taliban militants are continuing a recent spree of kidnapping bus passengers.

Militants recently kidnapped 17 bus passengers in Sar-i-Pul Province, Khaama Press reported June 2, quoting provincial governor's spokesman Zabiullah Amani.

The bus was travelling from Balkhab District to Sar-i-Pul city.

The provincial government asked local tribal elders to mediate, Amani said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban in Kunduz Province recently killed two more passengers out of 10 whom they had abducted days ago, Kunduz provincial security chief Muhammad Masoom Hashemi said June 2, according to Khaama Press.

The Taliban May 31 in Kunduz Province kidnapped 185 passengers from six buses and vans, releasing most of them, but killing 13 and holding 10, Khaama Press reported.
