OSCE teaches Kazakhs to guard borders

Staff Report

ASTANA -- Kazakhstani immigration and border personnel June 2 in Astana concluded a two-day-long training session on passport verification, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said in a statement.

The Kazakhstani officials became acquainted with the International Civil Aviation Organisation Public Key Directory, "a multilateral technical platform enabling the effective validation of electronic security features stored in biometric passports".

The directory "allows for a fast and effective multilateral validation that an ePassport is genuine" and helps prevent cross-border movement by terrorists, the OSCE said.
