89 Afghan militants, 5 soldiers killed

KABUL-- At least 89 militants and five Afghan soldiers were killed in recent combat in Afghanistan, media reported. Some deaths might have been reported twice.

Thirty-three militants and five soldiers were killed nationwide in a 24-hour span, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said June 20, according to Khaama Press.

Security forces recently killed at least 47 militants in Charchino District, Urzugan Province, the MoD said June 19, according to Khaama Press.

A recent air strike in Dasht-i-Archi District, Kunduz Province, killed eight Taliban, including a commander, the Afghanistan Times reported, quoting a June 19 statement from the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Afghan security forces recently in Keshk-e-Rabat District, Herat Province, ambushed and killed the Taliban's military commission chief for Badghis Province, Herat governor's spokesman Jilani Farhad said June 19, according to a June 19 Khaama Press report.
