ASTANA -- Gunmen who killed eight Kazakhstanis in Aktobe June 5 were obeying an order by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), Kazakhstani Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov said June 20, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The attacks stemmed from an internet message by an ISIL leader in Syria, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, Idrissov said. Al-Adnani urged ISIL adherents around the world to perpetrate violence during Ramadan.
Twenty-five gunmen June 5 in Aktobe stormed two gun stores and a military base. Security forces killed 18 of them in the next few days and made seven arrests.
