71 Afghan militants killed

KABUL -- At least 71 Afghan militants were killed recently, either in security force operations or in infighting with other militants.

Recent air strikes by the Afghan Air Force killed at least six members of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, Ataullah Khogyani, provincial governor's spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News June 21.

Another recent air strike in Garziwan District, Faryab Province, killed at least 18 militants, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said June 21, according to Khaama Press.

Afghan troops killed at least 23 other militants nationwide in a 24-hour span, the MoD said separately June 21, according to the Afghanistan Times. Two soldiers were killed.

Meanwhile, internecine combat June 21 in Pashtoon Zarghoon District, Herat Province, between two Taliban factions killed 24 militants, Khaama Press reported, quoting provincial governor's spokesman Jilani Farhad.
