Pakistani militants kill ex-APA for S. Waziristan

PESHAWAR -- A former assistant political agent for South Waziristan was assassinated in Peshawar June 22, police said.

Target killers opened fire on Nawab Safi, who was a section officer for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Secretariat at the time of his death, as he left a mosque after evening prayer, according to Dunya News.

Meanwhile, a Lahore-based anti-terrorism court June 22 indicted six members of a banned outfit in connection with charges related to a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in March 2009, Dawn reported. Eight Pakistanis were killed and eight Sri Lankans were injured in the attack, according to Dawn.

Meanwhile in Karachi, the bodyguard for Sufi singer Farhan Ali Waris June 22 scared off gunmen approaching his client's car by shooting into the air, Dunya TV reported.

Waris was not in his car at the time. Another Sufi singer, Amjad Sabri, was fatally shot in Karachi June 22.
