180 Afghan Taliban surrender; 5 killed by own bomb

KABUL -- About 180 Afghan Taliban recently surrendered to authorities and 26 were killed in Faryab Province, media reported, adding that five other terrorists were blown up by their own bomb in Paktia Province June 26.

The five were planting a bomb in a mosque in Syed Karam District, Paktia Province, when it blew up, the Ministry of Interior said June 27, according to Khaama Press.

Meanwhile, a Taliban commander named Rahimdad June 26 surrendered along with his 65 followers in Faryab Province, Khaama Press reported June 26. Another 115 Taliban surrendered a few days earlier in Faryab Province.

In Gurzaiwan District, Faryab Province, at least 26 Taliban and a civilian anti-Taliban uprising commander were killed recently in fighting following a militant attack on an outpost, provincial police chief Sayed Aqa Andarabi said June 26, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

Operatives of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) recently detained 14 members of the terrorist Haqqani Network and a key Taliban leader in operations in three provinces, the Afghanistan Times and Khaama Press reported.

The NDS agents seized a large cache of arms and ammunition, the NDS said.
