Tajiks kill Afghan drug trafficker

Staff Report

DUSHANBE -- Tajik Drug Control Agency (AKN) personnel and border troops the night of June 22-23 killed an Afghan trying to smuggle drugs into Tajikistan, the AKN said in a June 24 statement.

Four Afghan drug traffickers breached the border at Jekhkozi village, Khatlon Province, the AKN said. When the AKN and border troops ordered the Afghans to lay down their arms, they opened fire instead, causing the Tajiks to return fire.

Three of the Afghans fled back to Afghanistan, but the Tajik forces found the body of one trafficker after the gun battle. The Tajiks also found 945g of hashish and more than 23.1kg of opium at the scene.
