Kyrgyz MVD oversight board meets in Issyk-Kul

By Asker Sultanov

ISSYK-KUL, Kyrgyzstan -- The Kyrgyz Interior Ministry (MVD) Public Council July 8 convened in Issyk-Kul, the MVD press office said in a statement. The council is comprised of civilians who oversee the MVD's activities.

During the session, Public Council Chairman Jalkun Dautov informed attendees about the results of the council's earlier meeting in Osh. They included freeing uniformed local police of responsibilities -- such as participating in intelligence-based raids -- that do not match their job description.

Among other decisions, the council decided to hold further sessions outside Bishkek and to encourage the public to participate in those sessions.

Police in Issyk-Kul Province are installing video cameras on all roads and in all guesthouses in the province, Issyk-Kul Governor Askat Akibayev told the council. The move will protect tourists and ensure rapid response to moving violations, he said.
