Kyrgyz Interior Ministry seeks to improve own work

BISHKEK -- The Kyrgyz Interior Ministry (MVD) July 15 convened its governing board to sum up the results of MVD work in the first half of 2016, the MVD press office said in a statement. Interior Minister Kashkar Junushaliyev and Damir Sagynbayev, the chief of the government's department for overseeing defence, law and order, and emergency situations, were among the participants.

Junushaliyev ordered the heads of the MVD's various departments to fix various deficiencies in those departments and to report at the next session of the governing board. He cited the need for better MVD work in fighting organised crime and in identifying Kyrgyz extremists.

During the governing board's session, the MVD fired several high-ranking officials for poor performance, including the Chui Province police chief and the chiefs of police of several districts (raiony).
