Turkmen students hear warnings about ISIL mistruths

By Dzhumaguly Annayev

ASHGABAT -- Imams in Ashgabat are co-operating with Turkmen police and immigration service officials in warning Turkmens attending foreign universities about the dangers of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Turkmen service reported August 16.

The imams and the officials are holding information sessions for the students while they are home for summer vacation. In sessions held at an Ashgabat high school, the imams warn the vacationing college students not to believe ISIL's teachings, while the security personnel tell the students to obey Turkmen laws.

Although the Turkmen government does not acknowledge the presence of Turkmen citizens in ISIL, the terrorist group is rumored to have some Turkmen members.
