Kazakhstan concedes mistake in calling 2 brothers terrorists

Staff Report

ASTANA -- Two brothers in northwestern Kazakhstan are seeking compensation for being mistakenly branded as terrorists after the June 5 terrorist attacks in Aktobe, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported September 13.

Police in Aktobe Province apologised in June for mistakenly putting Samat and Sanat Kojaniyazov on wanted posters.

An Aktobe Province court began hearings into the brothers' complaint September 13.

The terrorists killed eight people in two gun stores and at a military base. Authorities killed 18 terrorists within a few days after the attacks.

Thirty defendants are now standing trial in connection with charges linked to the terrorist acts.
