Kazakh lower chamber approves strategic pact with Tajikistan

ASTANA -- Kazakhstan's lower chamber of parliament September 21 ratified a strategic partnership treaty between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Vlast.kz reported.

The pact's purposes include "co-ordinating efforts to fight international terrorism and extremism", acting Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdiyev told the deputies before they voted.

The agreement will take effect once the countries exchange certificates of ratification, he said.
