OSH, Kyrgyzstan -- Kyrgyz women September 27 in Osh attended a seminar on the "Role of the woman in Islam", the Bishkek-based NGO Iyman said in a statement. Iyman organised the event in honour of the Kyrgyz celebration of the Year of History and Culture.
Deputy Kyrgyz Mufti Jorobai haji Shergaziyev and other dignitaries participated in the seminar, which was meant to raise women's awareness of their rights in Islam and of traditional Islam. Organisers hope that, if the women who attended understand traditional Islam better, they will be more capable of fighting extremism and terrorism.
Iyman is planning more such seminars for women in more cities in Osh Province and in Batken and Jalal-Abad.
