Security officials, experts discuss a new anti-terror legislation in Kazakhstan

ASTANA -- About 40 MPs, senior officials from the National Security Committee, General Prosecutor, Supreme Court, Interior, Justice, Education and Science Ministries, international and national experts and researchers attended the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)-sponsored round table to discuss proposed anti-terrorism and extremism amendments to national law in Astana October 17.

Participants discussed legislative and institutional measures to prevent and counter violent extremism and radicalisation, leading to terrorism.

The event was organised by the lower house of parliament of Kazakhstan and the National Security Committee with support of the OSCE Programme Office in Astana, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, and the "Nur Otan" Democratic People's Party's Legal Council.
