Suspected Kazakh extremist is accused of killing ex-wife

By Alexander Bogatik

ALMATY -- Police November 2 in Daulet village, Almaty Province, arrested a suspected extremist who is accused of killing his former wife, Almaty TV reported that day.

The 31-year-old suspect barged into the residence that his ex-wife, Arai Duisekova, shared with her parents and stabbed her to death October 30, her father told Almaty TV.

The suspect, whom authorities did not identify, was angered that his ex-wife refused to wear a hijab and to perform the namaz prayer, her relatives said. He allegedly threatened frequently to kill her and to take his son to Syria.

"He constantly watched scary films about Syria," Akinet Duisekova, the victim's sister, said.
