Uzbek ruling party nominates new prime minister

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party Monday (December 12) nominated Abdulla Airpov to be prime minister, reported.

President-elect Shavkat Mirziyoyev will be vacating that post soon.

Mirziyoyev became prime minister in 2003 and won the presidential election on December 4, three months after the death of Islam Karimov, the long-time incumbent.

Aripov served as a deputy prime minister in 2002-2012 and since mid-September.
