ASHGABAT -- Turkmenistan's punishments for human trafficking will become more severe starting January 1, a source at the Justice Ministry told Caravanserai Monday (December 12), citing changes to the Criminal Code signed into law recently by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.
From that date on, convictions for human trafficking will be punishable by 15 to 25 years' imprisonment.
Formerly, the maximum punishment was 15 years.
