NOOKAT, Kyrgyzstan -- Schoolchildren and teachers of Nookat District, Osh Province, on Saturday (December 24) participated in a demonstration with the theme "We are against terrorism and religious extremism!", according to Jenish Ashirbayev, Osh Province police spokesman.
Pupils and teachers of more than 10 Nookat District schools attended the event, organised by the district police and district education directorate, Ashirbayev said.
The event organisers created banners that incorporated the drawings of schoolchildren who won an anti-terrorism art contest.
The participants marched down the streets of Nookat city until they reached the auditorium of Bokonbayev High School. The district prosecutor and other dignitaries spoke to them about the dangers of extremism and the virtues of traditional Islam.
Some pupils presented a play about the tragedy of families whose members have gone to Syria and Iraq to join the militancy.
