Terror attack in Istanbul blamed on Uzbek native

ISTANBUL -- Turkish police have identified the terrorist who killed 39 people in an Istanbul nightclub January 1 as Uzbekistani native Abdulkadir Masharipov, Daily Sabah of Istanbul reported Saturday (January 7).

Masharipov's alias is Abu Mohammad Khorasan, according to media reports.

Turkish authorities suspect 40 individuals of involvement in the massacre. They are still pursuing Masharipov.

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) took responsibility for the attack.
