2 Kazakhstani officers convicted of cowardice during Aktobe terrorist attack

AKTOBE, Kazakhstan -- An Aktobe court sentenced two Kazakhstani officers to three-and-a-half and four-and-a-half years in prison for cowardice during the June 5 terrorist attack in the city, Tengri News reported Wednesday (January 18), quoting the local military court.

Kainarbek Tastanbekov and Kayrgali Orazjanov were on duty at base No. 6655 when terrorists driving a bus crashed through the gates and opened fire.

The two soldiers jumped out of a bathroom window rather than confront the assailants.

The Aktobe terrorist attack left three troops and five civilians dead.
