Tajikistan ratifies extradition treaty with Afghanistan

DUSHANBE -- Tajikistan's parliament has ratified an extradition treaty between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, avesta.tj reported Thursday (February 16).

This agreement outlines the procedures for extradition and holding people in temporary detention centres, the terms of extradition, confiscating property obtained by illegal means and more, Tajik First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Alamshokh Abdurakhmonzoda said.

Most Afghans who are in prisons in Tajikistan were convicted of drug trafficking and illegally crossing the national border, while the majority of Tajik citizens held in Afghanistan's prisons were convicted of crimes related to terrorism and extremism, according to official data.
