Nazarbayev discusses amending Kazakh constitution

Staff Report

ASTANA -- Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev discussed possible constitutional reforms with members of a working group on the division of powers, Nazarbayev's website said in a statement Wednesday (March 1).

The working group has done considerable work in gathering and analysing suggestions for constitutional reform, Nazarbayev said.

The suggestions, some of which came from the public, are "meant to strengthen democratisation in our society" and to "modernise the constitutional basis for our law enforcement and judicial system", he said.

"The draft suggestions will go to parliament soon for discussion," he added.
