ASHGABAT -- Turkmen and Uzbekistani border crossings on April 1 will begin allowing residents of the two countries' border zones to visit the other country for up to three days without requiring a visa, the Turkmen service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported Tuesday (March 28).
The new policy emerged from a March 6-7 visit to Turkmenistan by Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reported RFE/RL.
Turkmenistan imposed a visa requirement for residents of the Uzbekistani border zone in the autumn of 2013, citing concerns about security and extremism.
