MOSUL, IRAQ -- Citing a military source in Iraq, the British newspaper The Times reported Saturday (April 15) that Gulmurod Khalimov, a former Tajikistani OMON commander and one of "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL)'s senior commanders, has been killed.
According to the paper, the former Tajikistani colonel, known as as al-Tajiki, who was called the "jihadists' minister of war" , was killed during an air strike on the Iraqi city of Mosul. Gulmurod Khalimov was in the western quarters of the city last week when a missile strike was launched.
The source reported that Khalimov was responsible for planning the defence of Mosul for ISIL.
