Tajik authorities detain 'Islamic State' commander Khalimov's son

Staff Report

DUSHANBE -- Tajik security forces have detained the 18-year-old son of ex-riot police commander Gulmurod Khalimov, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Tajik service reported Thursday (May 11), quoting Tajik law enforcement.

The elder Khalimov made headlines two years ago by defecting to the "Islamic State" (IS) and resurfacing in Iraq as an IS military commander.

His son Berkhuz is suspected of plotting to join him. Authorities arrested him in late April at Dushanbe International Airport, where he was trying to board an international flight.
