6 Tablighi Jamaat members sentenced to prison in Kazakhstan


ATYRAU, Kazakhstan -- A court in Atyrau sentenced six Kazakhstanis to prison for belonging to the banned organisation Tablighi Jamaat, reported Thursday (June 29).

The six came from Almaty, East Kazakhstan Province and Atyrau. The ringleader received a three-year sentence, while the other five defendants were sentenced to two years in prison.

The court found them guilty of illegal proselytising in Almaty city and in Mangystau and Atyrau provinces.
