Uzbekistani-Kyrgyz electricity contract goes into effect

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan in mid-June began importing Kyrgyz hydro-power, the Kyrgyz utility National Energy Holding Co. said on its website in a Thursday (July 6) statement.

Uzbekistan plans to import $25 million (99.7 billion UZS) of power from Kyrgyzstan at about 2 cents (79.7 UZS) per kWh.

Downstream Uzbekistan routinely imports upstream Kyrgyzstan's hydro-power every summer.
