QURGHONTEPPA, Tajikistan -- The organiser of a fatal March 12 Qurghonteppa bombing was sentenced to life in prison, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL)'s Tajik service reported Friday (September 29), quoting Supreme Court judge Mukhammad Kenjazoda.

Sharifjoni Zokir, the ringleader of the plot, was also found guilty of propagandising on behalf of "Islamic State" (IS) and of killing a homosexual Bokhtar District man in August 2016.

The March 12 bomb explosion outside a military prosecutor's office killed a 67-year-old school security guard. Zokir and four other defendants, who all received prison terms as well, confessed to trying to kill Russian troops based in Tajikistan.

The other defendants included Zokir's high-school-aged brother.
