BISHKEK -- The European Union is ready to begin financing a rural water supply and sanitation project in Kyrgyzstan, AKIpress reported Thursday (April 12).

The EU is setting up a trust fund of €10 million (852 million KGS) for the Taza Suu project, said Asein Isayev, Kyrgyzstan's ambassador to Belgium.

Kyrgyzstan will be able to access the money next year, he said.

About €300 million (25 billion KGS) is needed for the project and work is under way to secure the funds, Isayev said.

"Negotiations are under way with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and other world financial institutions," he said.
