DUSHANBE -- Entrepreneurs from Sughd and Khatlon provinces have signed a number of contracts worth $9,300 (83,500 TJS) to produce and export fruits and vegetables to Europe, ASIA-Plus reported Friday (May 11).

They also signed 37 contracts worth $220,000 (2 million TJS) for future transactions.

Twenty-three Sughd business leaders visited Khatlon Province to help more than 60 farmers export their fruits and vegetables to Europe under a US Agency for International Development (USAID) project. The crops include onions, apricots, persimmons, peaches and cherries.

The US government, through the New Silk Road initiative, is striving to improve the business environment, increase exports and create jobs in Central Asia.
