ASTANA -- President Nursultan Nazarbayev Wednesday (May 23) described development of Kazakhstan's defence industry as one of the country's priorities, Kazinform reported.
Nazarbayev spoke at the opening of the KADEX-2018 international military equipment expo in Astana, which will run from May 23-26. The exhibition was organised by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Defence and Aerospace Industry.
"Our country pursues a peaceful policy aimed at strengthening good-neighbourly relations with nearby and farther-away neighbours," said Nazarbayev. "However, today's situation forces everyone to strengthen... defence capability."
The KADEX exhibitions have become an efficient platform for developing military co-operation among various countries, he said.
This new period of technology has made the defence industry important in ensuring security and economic modernisation, Nazarbayev said.
